Short Term Therapy

The team consists of pre-licensed Marriage and Family Therapy Associates and Trainees who work under the supervision of Licensed MFT's. The student requesting counseling will receive an intake appointment with a member of our mental health team, who will make a determination regarding making a future appointment for counseling or implementing immediate crisis intervention. Sometimes students have mental health issues that exceed the capacity of the OCC Student Health Center. The mental health team will then provide community resources that are able to handle acute or long term mental health problems.

Counseling sessions with licensed therapists and intern therapists are available to help students with:

  • Academic Pressure
  • Cultural Adjustment
  • Depression and/or Suicidal Thoughts
  • Eating, Body Image, Weight
  • LGBTQIA+ Issues
  • Relationships & Sexuality
  • Sleeping Difficulties
  • Stress, Anxiety, Anger, Excessive Worry or Guilt
  • Mental Health Referrals

Group Therapy

Group therapy is an opportunity to meet others who may share similar experiences as you. Two therapists facilitate a group discussion where they teach you how to improve your coping skills.

Spring 2024 Groups:

  • Self-Compassion & Connection: Mon, 10 a.m. - 11 a.m
  • Understanding Trauma Through Creative Writing: Tue, 11 a.m. - 12 p.m.
  • Student Athletes: Wed, 11 a.m. - 12 p.m.

Crisis Intervention聽

At times, a student may need immediate assistance with a mental health issue.  Students may feel overwhelmed and unable to cope due to problems at school or in their personal lives, or due to the emergence of psychological symptoms such as depression or obsessive-compulsive tendencies.  The OCC Student Health Center staff is experienced at assisting students in crisis, and will provide immediate assistance to students who come to the health center seeking help.
